The chapter ring  (clock) face reads “Greenwich “ adjusted time. The gnomon shadow will be on 12 noon when the sun passes over the Greenwich meridian( 0 degrees) When the shadow is covering the engraved diamond this will mark “Local apparent noon” which will be fast if the dial is in the east and slow if the dial is westerly of Greenwich. Using the Equation of time graph it is possible to calculate “Clock” time.
