Stephen Holehan Sundials ™
Please note. Stephen has removed some of his products in the lead up to retirement early next year. When materials stock has been used up it will not be replaced. The Virgo and Orion spheres are no longer available, I am also not undertaking any new bespoke one off designs. This has been a really hard decision to make.
UPDATE: 27-09-2024 MY ORDER BOOK IS NOW CLOSED; IF YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID A DEPOSIT OR BEEN TOLD YOU HAVE BEEN "PENCILLED IN" DO NOT WORRY I AM WORKING AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE TO GET ALL MY ORDERS COMPLETED AND SENT OUT.
ONCE I HAVE SENT THE LAST PARCEL OUT I WILL BE TAKING A MUCH NEEDED LONG BREAK AND WILL FINALISE IN THE SPRING IF I AM RETIRING OR KEEPING A CUT DOWN VERSION OF THE BUSINESS RUNNING.
All dials with the exception of the "Deco" are available as Octagonal Plates.
Stephen prefers to work closely with his clients to ensure that each dial carries the sentiment that the client wishes it to carry. He can work with text size to ensure that its placement and proportion is in harmony with the chosen dial.
There are designs to show local apparent time (time as told by the sun) or be made to enable standard time to be calculated (clock time) the latter includes an Equation of time graph to factor in the “time fast” “time slow” conundrum associated with sundials. These sundial plates are made from brass and are supplied with a matte finish, they will quickly begin to patinate and develop a rich bronze-brown colour.
Installation instructions and location specific solarnoon chart are provided with each dial to allow for accurate sundial alignment. Stephen recommends using modern adhesive for fixing; details in installation instructions.
However if customers prefer; dials can be pre drilled for screwing down to plinths. Matching screws will be supplied free of charge.. There is no extra charge for the motto engraving.
All dials are solid brass 3.0 mm thick plate with a 6mm thick buttressed gnomon. All supplied fully assembled.
